Finacea for Rosacea

The prescription drug Finacea® (azelaic acid gel) is used to treat rosacea. This medication is only available with a prescription and is approved for use in people age 18 and older. It comes in the form of a gel and is typically applied to the skin twice daily.

Rosacea is characterized by redness, pimples, and thickened skin. As a treatment for rosacea, Finacea's active ingredient, azelaic acid, is thought to have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It may also help to slow down the rapid growth of skin cells. This prescription skin gel helps to treat the bumps and pimples caused by rosacea, and may also help diminish some of the redness associated with this skin condition.
