MetroCream
If you have rosacea, your healthcare provider may recommend MetroCream. This prescription drug is applied directly on the affected areas of the skin twice daily. Although it is not clear exactly how this drug works, it is an antibiotic and may also have some immune-suppressing and anti-inflammatory properties. Burning, redness, and itching are possible side effects.
MetroCream® (metronidazole cream) is a prescription rosacea medication. It comes as a cream that is applied directly on the skin twice a day.
This medication is made by Galderma Laboratories, L.P.
At this time, it is not yet known how MetroCream works for treating rosacea. The active ingredient (metronidazole) is an antibiotic. Metronidazole may have some immune-suppressing and anti-inflammatory properties, which may help with rosacea as well.
Some general considerations to keep in mind during treatment with MetroCream include the following:
- Apply this medication to the face twice a day. Only a thin layer is needed, but make sure to treat the entire affected area. Do not "spot treat" the face.
- You may use a mild cleanser before applying MetroCream, and you may apply cosmetics after applying the medication.
- Do not apply this cream too close to the eyes.
- For the medication to work properly, it must be used as prescribed.
There is only one standard dosage for this medication, regardless of the severity of your rosacea.
