Metrogel Topical 0.75%

Metrogel® (metronidazole gel) is a medicated skin gel prescribed to treat rosacea. Originally, Metrogel was available only in a 0.75% strength. However, shortly before the patent for this product was about to expire, the manufacturer switched to a 1% formulation and stopped making the 0.75% gel. The 1% formulation is still protected by patents and is only available in brand-name form.

The 0.75% gel is still available in generic form and is made by various manufacturers, including Fougera and G&W Laboratories, Inc. Both the 1% and 0.75% formulations of Metrogel come as a gel that is applied to the skin. The 1% gel is applied once a day, while the 0.75% gel is applied twice day.
