Treating Rosacea With Metrogel

Adults who have a skin condition called rosacea may benefit from using Metrogel® (metronidazole gel). This prescription medicine is specifically approved to treat the pimples and bumps caused by rosacea. It may also help relieve dryness and redness, although it is not approved for this specific use.
When treating rosacea with Metrogel, the gel is applied to the affected areas once or twice a day, depending on which strength of the medicine you are using. It is not exactly clear how the drug works, but the active ingredient in Metrogel is a type of antibiotic. There may also be some anti-inflammatory and immune-suppressing properties as well.
