Oracea Medication Information

There is a lot of information to be aware of before taking the prescription medication Oracea® (doxycycline). Oracea is the only doxycycline product approved for treating rosacea.
 
At higher doses, doxycycline is often used as an antibiotic to treat infections. Oracea is different, though; it contains a lower dose of doxycycline that works by decreasing inflammation.
 
Oracea is not approved for treating the redness that often accompanies rosacea. It is used for treating the acne-like bumps and blemishes (known as inflammatory lesions) associated with the skin condition. Oracea capsules are unique in that they contain a combination of immediate-release and delayed-release beads, allowing for convenient once-a-day dosing.
 
As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Oracea. However, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor, meaning that they either require no treatment or can be treated easily. Common side effects of this drug include, but are not limited to:
